About More and more SMEs becoming conscious of being ‘family-friendly’ workplaces

New data reveals the rising number of Australian SMEs that are keen to be recognised as a family-friendly employer, and that are outpacing larger enterprises in this respect.

According to the study by Parents At Work, a social impact business advisory group supporting employers to embed inclusive practices and UNICEF Australia, the number of employers with 500 employees or less applying to be independently benchmarked is 55 per cent.

Emma Walsh, chief executive of workplace advisory group Parents at Work, which launched the Family Friendly Workplace certification for Australian organisations with UNICEF Australia in 2021, said the provision of transition days and other return-to-work policies was “a growing trend”.

A survey released by Parents at Work on Monday found that 62 per cent of the 104 Australian employers that have been, or soon will be, certified as a Family Friendly Workplace are committed to expanding their transitional support benefits for new and expectant parents.
