Start your journey by completing the benchmarking assessment.
Australian employers can apply to be certified if they meet the minimum National Work & Family Standards.
The certification standards and eligibility requirements are reviewed and updated regularly. At the two-year renewal point, the participating employer’s certification status is re-evaluated every two years based on current standards and eligibility terms.
The Family Friendly Workplaces certification program recognises organisations commitment to creating a family inclusive workplace.
Besides recognition, the certification is a social impact measurement tool. It provides a score and recommendations to help your organisation measure and improve its social impact over time by evaluating your current policies and practices against the National Work + Family Standards.
The National Work + Family Standards have been developed in partnership with UNICEF Australia and endorsed by expert industry and community partners to provide a benchmark for family inclusive workplace best practice policy development and implementation to embed sustainable progress.
The certification supports organisations to identify and develop targeted family inclusive policies and practices that support an organisation to improve its inclusion, gender equality and wellbeing outcomes, as well as track and report progress.
Provided your organisation has met the benchmarking requirements, you can start the online certification process at any time.

Your organisation will determine the areas it would like to focus on through an endorsed work & family action plan so you can be certified as a family-inclusive employer.

The Family Friendly Workplace certification program is administered by Parents At Work and the team provide instruction to guide you through the certification process. The initial benchmarking and certification assessment process is conducted via online surveys.
The Family Inclusive Workplace (FIW) certification is valid for 2 years and is non-transferable. The FIW certification fee is an annual fee with the first invoice issued on completion of this form. The second invoice will be issued in 12 months time.
Family Friendly Workplaces measure their positive social impact on work-life wellbeing using the certification framework. They use this framework to be recognised as a socially responsible workplace. The Family Friendly Workplace assessment measures an organisation’s social impact progress against the National Work + Family Standards. Once organisations receive a score, their assessment is verified by an expert Assessor.
Once certified, an organisation will be announced and recognised as a Family Inclusive Workplace. To retain certification, organisations must resubmit an assessment every two years and complete an impact evaluation. Certified organisations are required to submit a Work and Family Action Plan as part of the certification process and are accountable for delivering on this action plan to retain certification.
Family Friendly Workplaces retains the right to revoke certification status if an organisation is unable to complete and uphold the certification requirements or if found in breach of the certification standards.
Family Friendly Workplaces has been developed by Parents At Work and UNICEF Australia, and is supported by leading industry sponsors and community partner organisations and the Prime Minister and Cabinet Office for Women, Women’s Leadership and Development Program (WLDP).
