At Genea, helping people build families is at the heart of what we do. That same commitment shapes the way we look after our team and their families. Many of our team members say they joined and stayed because care and compassion are part of our everyday work.
Our largest group of employees is aged between 25 and 36, which means many are right in the middle of raising children. We also have a strong base of long-serving team members, with 18% having been with us for more than ten years. Some are becoming grandparents or supporting ageing parents. Whatever stage of life they are in, we want our team to feel supported to balance their work and family responsibilities.
Flexibility is central to how we work at Genea. Our hybrid workforce model has evolved over many years and gives teams the freedom to shape their own working practices within a broader framework. This approach allows our teams to design a working week that suits both Genea’s needs and their own family and lifestyle commitments.
As a fertility clinic, we truly understand the challenges of infertility and pregnancy loss while continuing to work. Staff can access time off for appointments, and the need for time off after miscarriage, stillbirth, and failed fertility treatment is recognised in Genea’s Bereavement Leave Policy.
We are proud members of the Parents At Work Employer Network, which gives us access to the latest family-friendly policy advice. We also have mental health resources in place and staff are eligible for mental health support plans.
Our family-friendly approach has been part of Genea for many years, with practical support often introduced well before formal policies were in place.
Some of Genea’s family-friendly policies have been a natural outcome of our understanding of infertility. Others, such as the inclusion of miscarriage in the Bereavement Leave Policy, have been influenced by valued partners like The Pink Elephants Support Network and Parents At Work.
Significant research was conducted into best-practice hybrid workforce models, and the final design was shaped by employee feedback.
Over the last 12 months, Genea’s Net Promoter Score (NPS) has increased significantly from an already high baseline and is also reflected in the Employee Net Promotor Score (eNPS).
Genea has strong retention overall, especially in our core Science and Nursing roles, which make up a significant part of our workforce. Our team members remain connected to the organisation and the patients we care for. The introduction of several family-friendly policies continues to strengthen that connection and supports our culture of care.
Having been a part of the Genea family for more than ten years, I have experienced firsthand the compassionate and accommodating nature of this organisation, especially during challenging personal circumstances. Throughout my tenure, I encountered several unforeseen personal situations that required international travel to care for my mother following her surgeries. Each time, Genea demonstrated exceptional understanding by permitting me to work remotely from overseas. This flexibility was crucial, as it enabled me to attend my mother’s medical appointments and oversee her full recovery without compromising my professional responsibilities. The company’s willingness to offer extensive work-from-home options and accommodate my schedule during hospital visits significantly alleviated the stress associated with balancing caregiving and work duties.
I would like to extend special thanks to the Human Resources team, whose consistent guidance regarding available benefits (including the implementation of a carer’s plan and providing me with an additional 5 days of paid personal leave to assist in supporting my mother) was instrumental in helping me manage my workload and caregiving duties effectively. Their support truly made a difference in lightening the burden during difficult times.
I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be part of an organisation that not only recognises but actively supports the personal needs of its staff. This empathy and flexibility are among the primary reasons I remain committed to my role at Genea. The supportive environment fosters a sense of loyalty and motivation that is difficult to find elsewhere.
– Genea Patient Support Manager
As a leading provider of fertility services in Australia, Genea prides itself on its focus on exceptional, personalised care and outcomes for its patients. Similarly, Genea believes the employee experience should also be exceptional and personalised. A key part of that experience for many Genea staff is the support they receive to work flexibly and manage a wide range of carer responsibilities. FFW accreditation is important because it reinforces the value of family-inclusive workplace practices in business today and in the future. It also provides the framework and networks to help us continue striving for improvement.
