About KFC South Pacific

Why is KFC committed to be a family friendly workplace?

A lot goes into making KFC an amazing place to work. We proudly employ more than 40,000+ Australians at over 700+ restaurants. We have a passion for supporting our people to be their best selves, make a difference, and have fun – that’s our People Promise. We recognise that through supporting our people to balance work/life conflict, all of our people are able to be their best selves.

Point of Difference

Share a family friendly workplace initiative that your organisation excels with and the impact it is having on the workplace culture?

Flexible Work

We support all of our people for balancing the pressure of meeting demands at both work and home. We have a variety of practices in place across the system to ensure our people are enabled to be flexible with their time and meet their caring needs. These practices ensure our people have reduced levels of anxiety associated with work/life conflict, and we have seen a tangible improvement in how our people feel about the brand and buy in to long term strategy, which is primarily focused on making our people’s lives easier

How

How have you seen your people respond to this initiative?

Our people have responded positively and repaid this support through greater levels of engagement and advocacy for the brand. We are not aiming to drive greater levels of productivity through this initiative; it is there to ensure our people feel safe and secure in their roles and feel enabled to balance the needs of work and home.

Outcomes

What are some of the business benefits you see from being a family inclusive organisation?

Our ambition is to be an employer of choice; we can’t meet that ambition unless we support our people across multiple factors with work/life conflict being the biggest impact on peoples ability to be effective at work. As a business, we see being a family-inclusive organisation as a requirement to being an inclusive and equitable business, to attract and retain talent and ultimately be reflective of social norms and needs in 21st century Australia.

Teresa Cocco

Employee Story

Teresa

My name is Teresa, married to Tristan who I met at KFC! and a mother to 4 gorgeous but very cheeky girls. My oldest is 13 this year, my next is 11, my next is 6 and my youngest is 5 tomorrow.

I have been working at KFC for the past 22 years and have been an RGM for over 10.5 years.

I am very lucky to be working for such an amazing company that has allowed me to grow into my best self. I thank KFC and my area coach for being very flexible with our roster schedule which has allowed me to be there for my family and still be a Restaurant General Manager.

I would like to note two situations where KFC and my area coach Ram have supported me by being flexible and family-oriented:

– In 2016 while pregnant with my fourth child my daughter was diagnosed with a rare condition called hemihypertrophy. During this time, KFC and my area coach ensured I had all the support I needed and even allowed me to go part-time for 6 months.

-My daughter still has regular check-ups, which requires me to take time off work; my area coach and KFC are understanding and supportive. I do not get questioned, just asked how everything is going.

– Our rostering flexibility is far more family friendly than it was 10 years ago. We have an EBA in place that allows for both managers and Team members to have a better work life balance For example, on night shift we start at 3.30 pm so we can do pick-ups at school before going to work.

I could go on forever on how much KFC has helped me feel supported and appreciated throughout my career. I don’t think I would have gotten this far in a different company.

Thank you to all that have been part of my KFC journey! And to many more years to come.

From Our Leaders

“We pride ourselves on being a supportive, flexible and inclusive workplace at KFC, so we’re excited to be on the journey to becoming certified as a Family Friend Workplace by UNICEF Australia and Parents at Work. As a single parent working remotely, I know first-hand how important it is to balance work and family commitments.  Given the challenges this presents, we are absolutely committed to making KFC a workplace that gives our people the opportunities and support to thrive at work and home. This means a real dedication to supporting our people with family-friendly policies.  It also means we are able to attract new talent into a culture that fosters health, wellbeing and provides genuinely satisfying careers".
